It is easy to get caught up in what you don’t have, but have you ever stopped to appreciate what you DO have?

There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind. She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always there for her. She told her boyfriend, ’If I could only see the world, I would marry you.’

One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. When the bandages came off, she was able to see everything, including her boyfriend. He asked her, ‘Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?’ The girl looked at her boyfriend and saw that he was blind. The sight of his closed eyelids shocked her. She hadn’t expected that. The thought of looking at them the rest of her life led her to refuse to marry him Her boyfriend left in tears and days later wrote a note to her saying: ‘Take good care of your eyes, my dear, for before they were yours, they were mine.’

This is how the human brain often works when our status changes.. Only a very few remember what life was like before, and who was always by their side in the most painful situations.

Life Is a Gift

Today before you say an unkind word – Think of someone who can’t speak.

Before you complain about the taste of your food – Think of someone who has nothing to eat..

Before you complain about your husband or wife – Think of someone who’s crying out to GOD for a companion.

Today before you complain about life – Think of someone who went too early to heaven..

Before whining about the distance you drive Think of someone who walks the same distance with their feet.

And when you are tired and complain about your job – Think of the unemployed, the disabled, and those who wish they had your job..

And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down – Put a smile on Your face and think: you’re alive and still around..

When you stumble make it part of the dance.

Lacey Brown of American Idol season 9 will be in Pueblo Colorado March 18th and 19th to perform for Ryan Bright a 21 year old patient with Sangre de Cristo Hospice. Bright was born with Spina Bifida; a birth defect in which the backbone and spinal canal do not close before birth, and is now succumbing to respiratory failure.
Sangre de Cristo Hospice’s program ‘Dying Wishes’ is giving Ryan his wish to hold a Christian Rock and Rap concert in Pueblo to reach out to the cities youth and share his faith with music.
Brown will be available at the Sangre de Cristo Hospice House located at 1107 Pueblo Blvd Way on the 18th for a meet and greet with Ryan and his family as well as interview opportunities for the media.
S O G Crew a hip hop group from Los Angeles, CA will also perform for Bright on Saturday March 19th at the Memorial Hall in Pueblo starting at 7pm. This event is open to the public with a $10 suggested donation.
Bright will be receiving a certificate of participation from Pueblo Dist. 70 as well that night in a surprise ceremony by members of Dist. 70’s board. Due to Bright’s condition he was unable to finish high school.

This will be a very visual and moving opportunity for local media.

Since 1985, families in our community have turned to Sangre de Cristo Hospice & Palliative Care when facing perhaps one of the most difficult times in their lives. For more than 25 years, we have responded to the needs of our community with the utmost compassion and competence. We are grateful for the trust that you have placed in us to see that your loved ones, parents, family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and many others need not die alone or in pain. In 2010, more than 1000 patients and their loved ones in southern Colorado experienced the excellence of care we provide during this significant time. We commit to being prepared when we are needed in the coming years as well.
